How to hit a cross-court dink in pickleball
Updated October 2026 · 2-minute read
To hit a cross-court dink, aim your paddle face across your body toward the far sideline. Push gently through the ball, keeping it low over the net. This angle forces your opponent to move.
How to tell
- Your dinks go straight ahead.
- The ball lands too wide on the sideline.
- Your dinks pop up too high.
- Opponents don't move much.
Why it matters
A good cross-court dink pulls your opponent out of position. This opens up the court for your next shot. It makes them run and creates easy points.
The fix
- Angle Paddle. Point your paddle face across your body to the far sideline target.
- Gentle Push. Use a soft, pushing motion. Do not swing hard or flick your wrist.
- Stay Low. Focus on clearing the net by inches. Keep the ball from popping up.
One cue makes it click: Point to the corner, push it low.
