pickleball swing check/learn/forehand stance fix
Open stance or closed? The simple fix for your forehand setup
Updated August 2026 · 2-minute read
Forget open or closed. For a powerful forehand, simply open your paddle-side foot. Load your weight onto that foot, then rotate your body through the shot.
How to tell
- Weak forehands.
- Hitting balls short.
- Feeling off-balance.
- No power in your swing.
Why it matters
This setup lets you use your whole body, not just your arm. You get more power and control with less effort. It also helps you stay balanced after your swing.
The fix
- Open Foot. Step your paddle-side foot back and open it towards the side fence.
- Load Weight. Shift your weight onto that open, paddle-side foot. Feel grounded.
- Rotate Through. Push off that foot, rotating your hips and shoulders into the ball.
One cue makes it click: Open, Load, Rotate. Hit through it.
2-minute drill
Practice this movement at home with shadow swings.
- Stand ready, paddle back.
- Open your paddle-side foot, load weight.
